Deers
Deer in nature mainly eat leaves and buds of trees, shrubs, grasses and herbs. In a kept situation it is not always possible to imitate this variation. Here, deer mainly eat grass or hay supplemented with straw for the necessary fiber. Deer have a small rumen so they need to eat small amounts of food throughout the day. Their metabolism is fast and from roughage (grass, hay and straw) they can get a lot of nutrients but they also need a lot for maintenance. Especially in the winter period and during gestation and lactation, it is important to offer deer pellets in addition to good roughage.
